Results. We have shown that differences in the histogram of contacts area are very small, but there are differences in the histograms of distances between the contacting atoms in native proteins and decoys. The main difference lies in the range 2.7-2.8 Е. There are greatly less contacts in decoys than in native structures. Also we derived a statistical potentials based on contacts for decoys and native structures. Shape of the potential well of the native structure has a shallow wide bottom, while the shape of the potential well for decoys has narrow bottom like for van der Waals potential. Also there are differences in the histograms of contacts area between amino acids. The proportions of specific contacts for native structures and decoys were calculated.
